Packaging Options When Shipping Products Overseas
Owning a business is not simple but one thing that is constant is that you must get your product to the customer, wherever they are. Getting the product to the customer is much, much easier job when the customer walks into the door and orders an item for sale or maybe even two. However, it is not so easy when the customer is a million miles away.
When you are selling your product to a customer a million miles away, you would need to ensure that they receive the product as they have been promised when they forked out their hard earned money at the time of sale. We all want to make sure our customers are happy with how they receive the product but it can sometimes be challenging when you are dealing with travel that is more than just moving it out of the door.
Some of the challenges a person will encounter when sending a package is in ensuring the package reaches the customer in the right condition and that is accomplished by matching the right packaging material with the right product.
The corrugated box is perhaps one of the most common packaging materials when sending materials overseas. This is great if you are sending dry goods that are of defined shape and made of material that is not necessarily fragile. The box is also important because it gives a uniformed shape to your package. During shipping, boxes are stacked on top of each other and the box makes sure that it is stacked properly in transit.
Shipping fragile material overseas require special packaging instead of the regular cardboard box. You will need to use a packing material, often Styrofoam that will accomplish two things. The first thing you need to ensure is that the package does not move around in the box. The second task of the Styrofoam packaging material is to cushion and protect the package from impact.
Some packaging material that fall under this includes Styrofoam popcorns and Styrofoam blocks designed to fit the product perfectly. Using bubble wraps is also a great way to achieve the same results. The recent green movement has opened the possibilities of recyclable material in the form of cardboard packing materials that do the same thing.
Some packages have special needs compared to other packages. For example, a bonsai tree needs to be packaged separately from the pot. The pot is shipped through a cushioning packaging material while the tree itself is secured and the roots are bound carefully.
Food material also requires special packaging, often refrigerated. However, not all planes and ships carry a freezer in it. Hence you need to put the cooling material in the packaging itself. Often times, the ice used is dry ice and its placed around a water proof material. There is also another waterproof or absorbent material enclosing everything to absorb any condensation.
These are just some of the many packaging materials that can be used to transport your unique product. Customize your packaging material to deliver the best product available and your customers will appreciate your efforts. In the end, it could even increase your sales because they will appreciate your effort.
