Envelopes Buying Tips

These handy little devices are classified into different types depending on how they are sealed shut, what kind of flaps they have, how their seams were put together, if they contain any windows, what size they are, what material they are made from, whether or not that material is tinted, and whether they contain any special features. They come in business styles, packaging styles, direct mail styles, general use styles, and coloured and plain varieties. Here are some tips on what to look for when browsing for these.
The most common style of closure is found on the gummed envelope. These seal tightly when a tiny bit of moisture is added to the gum strip, keeping the contents secure. The self-sealing variety doesn’t require moisture to fasten shut, but the flap automatically seals itself when closed. The strip removal variety features a strip of paper covering the sticky strip on the flap. When this paper is removed, the flap may then be sealed tightly. Other closing methods include the clasp and the button and string, both of which are reusable.
The most common flap style is the commercial flap, which features a shallow, angled flap that can be easily used by auto-insertion machines. Other flap styles include the V-flap, found on many traditional varieties, and the square flap, usually found on self-sealing or clasp varieties.
If you need to send business mail, choosing one with a window may be ideal for you. An envelope with a window features a transparent section that allows a section of the contents to be viewed from the outside. Windows are most commonly found in one standard size placed to the left of the package. Other common window styles include the double-window, most commonly used to display both the mailing and the return address, and the right-window, commonly used for insurance forms or other form-related mailings.
There are a huge variety of package sizes available, so be sure to choose the one that best fits your mailing. Sizes can be found by inch or millimetre measurements or by using a number-letter code that indicates a package designed to contain a certain specific size of paper. There are also specialty sizes available that are designed to transport specialty items such as CDs or invitations.
Envelopes are available made from all different kinds of materials. Make sure to choose the material you need depending on what you will be transporting. If you need extra protection, get one that contains bubble padding. Kraft packages come in white, grey, and brown and offer great protection against rugged handling. Other varieties include the white wove, made from white card stock; the manila, which is extra durable; and the eco-friendly variety, made from 100% recycled material. There is also a tinted material available for extra security and a water-resistant material to protect your contents from the elements.
